FRIDAY 26TH APRIL 2013, BIRMINGHAM
From curry houses to care homes, petrol stations to packaging industries and snacks to stock trading - the very best of British Asian enterprise in Birmingham was in the spotlight at the launch of the Asian Business Awards Midlands on Friday (26/4/13). Hosted by the Asian Media and Marketing Group (AMG), publishers of Eastern Eye and Garavi Gujarat, the awards are the first regional offshoot of the national Asian Business Awards, held in London.
Tony Deep Wouhra from East End Foods was presented with the 'Asian Business of the Year Award 2013'. His early lessons as a door to sales person gave him a deep understanding of the need to put the customer's need first. And that has been the hallmark of his family's success to build East End Foods into one of the country's premier food businesses. The company's HQ in Aston is hugely impressive, standing on the site of an old HP sauce factory, it cost £10m and will soon house an urban farm in line with Tony Deep's principles of organic production. Tony is also a deeply committed health activist. Having been diagnosed with diabetes, he has worked hard to raise awareness of the condition and he has close links with charities and health organisations working in the area.
